Sometimes choosing joy and pleasure can be the most frightening thing!

It might seem natural that one would prefer choosing joy and pleasure over sadness and pain, however that is not always the case. It is actually quite frequent that we may feel more safe and comfortable in choosing the latter. Why? Because joy and pleasure can be really scary. Most of the times it is because our system (soul and/or cellular memory) remembers that when we were happy and all was good, suddenly an unexpected event happened that brought about pain and deep sadness. Or we might have a belief that we cannot have it all, that every little joy must be paid with some type of struggle. Or worse, that we don’t deserve it.

And so it happens that we might feel safer in choosing a known pain over an unknown pleasure. And this is one way in which we fall in a pattern that keeps on sabotaging our desires where what brings us deep joy and pleasure either remains hidden or just out of reach. Or maybe we reach it but for a limited amount of time.

Have you ever planned the perfect vacation that somehow got cancelled or ruined? Maybe you got sick or for some reason couldn’t go at the last moment, or an event just ruined the fun. Do you feel as if you are always working on reaching your desired goal and keep on being stuck on “being on the way” and working to get there but just never truly reach it? And many more…

So how do you stop being afraid?


You start allowing yourself small amounts of pleasure and joy while observing yourself and staying open to feel your reaction. Sometimes awareness and time is all you need. By giving this part of yourself attention, you are already sending it healing energy. By becoming aware of your sabotage mechanisms, you are already aligning yourself with the possibility to change that. And while observing yourself, stay connected to your heart’s desire: do you want to feel joy and pleasure? If yes, then all you need to do is have the courage to allow it. Little by little, no need to overstimulate your system, and every time you will be able to feel more of it, never forgetting to be compassionate towards yourself and your soul’s journey, knowing that when there is some deep trauma present, it might take a bit longer to become fully comfortable in this higher vibration, but that doesn’t mean you don’t get to enjoy the small steps you take towards your healing.
